America why have you chosen Esau over Jacob?
In the story of Jacob and Esau, who was given rights to the Promised Birthright? Was it Jacob or Esau? In accordance with the hereditary title Esau was born first and therefore entitled to the birthright, yet the name Jacob means the usurper or the supplanter as he receives what was expected to go to someone else. And this is what happens in the story. Esau arrived too late. His birthright had already been given to Jacob. Esau then conspired to murder his own brother to take his birthright away from him.
Do you know the history of Esau? The people of Esau were conquered by the Jews in 163 BC and forced the Edomites to convert to Judaism. Though they maintained their historical name and territory until they united with the Jews to revolt against Rome in 70 AD. At Masada. The last of their soldiers attempted to escape the Romans in King Herod’s Mountain castle known as the Eagle’s Nest. This came to pass as was prophesied by Obadiah the prophet, The pride of your heart has deceived you, you who live in the clefts of the rocks and make your home on the heights, you who say to yourself, ‘Who can bring me down to the ground?’ Though you soar like the eagle and make your nest among the stars, from there I will bring you down,” declares the Lord.[1] They were gathered up together with the Jews and sold off as slaves throughout the Roman Empire, as Isaac prophesied of Esau, you will be away from the beautiful land.[2] Today the Jews and the Edomites are one and the same people. In 1948 they returned to the land to claim their inheritance:
32 His father Isaac asked him, “Who are you?”
He answered, “I am your son, your firstborn, Esau.”
33 Isaac trembled violently, “Who was it, then, that hunted game and brought it to me? I ate it just before you arrived, and I blessed him—and indeed he will be blessed!”
34 When Esau heard his father’s words, he burst out with a loud and bitter cry and said to his father, “Bless me—me too, my father!”
35 But he said, “Your brother came deceitfully and took your blessing.”
36 Esau said, “Isn’t he rightly named Jacob? This is the second time he has taken advantage of me: He took my birthright, and now my blessing!”
At that point it was too late. God had already made Jacob into many nations from the Nile to the Euphrates, many Kingdoms, and a people like the stars of the sky. Thus, the promise was already fulfilled. Just like their patriarch Esau when the Zionists discovered that Jacob had already laid claim to the promised inheritance, they went to the Gentiles who robbed the rightful land of Jacob and gave it to his brother Esau. And what was Esau’s response: 41 Esau held a grudge against Jacob because of the blessing his father had given him. He said to himself, “The days of mourning for my father are near; then I will kill my brother Jacob.” And even this day Esau is using the weapons of the Gentiles to murder their brother Jacob in Gaza. As a wolf in sheep’s clothing Edom took on the name Israel, yet it was their ancestors that murdered and sold Israel into Assyrian bondage. And today the Gentiles being thoroughly deceived are praising Esau and condemning Jacob. Time and time again humanity has called through the United Nations to free Palestine. And yet time and time it is the Christian colonial powers that defend Edom at all costs. Even through the present ongoing ethnic cleansing and genocide.
Is there a difference between an Edomite and a Jew? At the end of Esau’s story in HaJashar he died at the cave of Machpelah trying to take the birthright from Jacob. While Judah, the patriarch of the Jews went from hate to love when he realized his enemy, the prince of Egypt was in reality his long-lost brother. This day millions of Jews are crying out to save Joseph from the Zionist hands of Esau. As it is written, Jacob will be a fire, Joseph a flame; but Esau will be rubble. They will set him ablaze and utterly destroy him. There will be no survivors from Esau.” The Lord has spoken. Which side are you on?
